School Crests

An updated version of the Willard family crest, the School crest serves as the student and alumnae "logo" and can be found on class rings. The crest bears the motto Gaudet Patientia Duris –patience rejoices in adversity.

The School’s official "corporate" seal bears the lamp of learning and a likeness of Mrs. Willard, with the words Semper Fidelis–always faithful.

Standing tall over Sage Hall, Sage Tower has been Emma Willard’s beacon for over 90 years. A symbol of strength and pride, it sparks curiosity and wonderment about our rich heritage. Through the decades, the tower image has appeared in a number of places from notebooks to blazer pockets. The Alumnae Association Council selected the tower image as its logo in 2002. The tower is a common focal point for alumnae now scattered across the globe and looking back on Mt. Ida.

Trude Hall, Head of School

Included in Emma Willard's regular communications efforts is a series of messages from Trudy Hall, Head of School. The importance of peer contact, having crucial family conversations, managing the stress of exams, and current literature on girls' development and education are just some of the topics explored in a personal and dynamic series of essays.
